Yantian has released the plans to build itself into a core area of Shenzhen as a global maritime city, positioning itself as an international shipping hub and offshore trading center, as well as the key junction for Belt and Road Initiatives.
The plan highlights the development of high-end marine industry, marine technological innovation, Greater Bay Area marine economic cooperation and demonstration for marine ecosystem protection.
According to the plans, Yantian will accelerate the container terminal construction at its east port area and promote container berths upgrading.
Currently, the first phase project of Yantian east port area is under construction, including three new 200,000 tonnes-class automated container berths, with an annual design capacity of 3m teu per year, which will be developed as one of the world’s top smart green container terminal.
As a hub container port at South China, Yantian port is handling 50% container throughput of Shenzhen.
